For the past several weeks we’ve been talking about the benefits of integrating hybrid cloud storage into security infrastructure. We’ve reviewed disaster and data recovery benefits and the ways that hybrid cloud storage serves up scalability.

Security is another main focus of many organizations when contemplating upgrading or switching to hybrid cloud storage solutions. Keeping data and customer records safe is oftentimes assumed, until a breach happens. Some organizations may assume public cloud access means less security.

A study by the Ponemon Institute estimated that the average cost of a data breach is more than $200 per record, but cloud storage actually makes this less likely to occur.

An unfortunate reality of many small and mid-sized businesses is that they don’t invest in the technology solutions that are necessary to protect their data. Gartner recently reported that through 2020, 95 percent of cloud security breaches will be due to customer error, not an inability by cloud service companies to provide adequate security.

Working with a dedicated service provider allows for security beyond what customers can do on their own. Service providers employ dedicated, experienced security personnel – as opposed to smaller environments where security is just an added responsibility of the system administrators. Service providers have the best tools for monitoring, which quickly identify, and allow for a quick response, to any potential breaches that may occur.

Layered defenses are in place both from physical and software perspectives. Physical access to service provider’s facilities use biometrics and card access, and generally, all areas of the facility are monitored by camera 24/7. Software security is layered at the firewall and protected by load balancers, VPN, operating systems and the ability to test access with probing utilities. Finally, these centers are more likely to stay up-to-date on latest patches at all levels and are subject to periodic audits to insure compliance.

Every service provider deals with security differently. At Dataedge, it’s our number one priority.

Incorporating Dataedge’s hybrid cloud storage services puts organizations at ease, which allows them to do their job better.

Take it from one of our customers:
“Dataedge has been a real lifesaver for my company. We have a lot of sensitive information and no formal way to store it should there be a system failure. Thank you for calling on me! We have had three complete system meltdowns and because of Dataedge, we experienced minimal downtime and lost 0% of our data.”
